Do you have a set of values for yourself? Your family? Your business?
Even if you don’t “know” them, you have them.
How you conduct yourself demonstrates what’s most important to you.
Here at The New Flat Rate, we operate on five values:
HONESTY | INTEGRITY | COMMON SENSE | EXCELLENCE | KINDNESS
These core values define how we treat each other and make decisions.
Honesty is our top value because it’s foundational to our goals.
Now, we know what you’re thinking.
Guys, I’ve got a mission statement and values document somewhere; we spent days writing this book about it for our process manual.
Okay, but do you remember what’s in there? Could any of your employees share the mission statement at the drop of a hat or list your core values?
If not, it’s probably too complicated.
Many of us entrepreneurs started out in our garages for our first office. You know what I’m talking about.
It was you, maybe some family, and you worked your butts off. You were CEO, sales, marketing, technician, and HR.
But because of your hard work, you started to grow. You hired your first employee. YES!
You grew and grew and grew…until you didn’t.
Suddenly you plateaued.
What happened?!
Bottleneck happened.
You have worn all the hats at your company, right? So you probably took on too much work because,” Yeah, I can do that!” but there is only one of you, and things got behind. And it keeps us small as the owner when we’re the bottleneck all the time; it really stops growth.
So how do we get rid of the bottleneck effect?
It comes back to values.
When everyone in your company knows the overall mission and strategy and understands the values you’ve chosen for your company, you as an owner can widen the bottleneck. And then, when they are empowered, whether they make the right choice or the wrong choice, it allows your company to have the freedom to grow.
So how do you figure out what your core values are? Or what they should be? And how do you rank them?
We’ve created an Ultimate Value Finder that we want to share with you to help you get started finding your company’s values!
You can also join a free group coaching call with Matt Koop. He specializes in helping business owners target their values and create a roadmap to achieve them.
It is worth stepping back right now, wherever your business is, and looking at your core values and making sure that you get them right so that you’re better prepared for growth in the future.
